Jean Sibelius

Symphony #2

This was a huge challenge to enter for several reasons. The work is very long and written for a full romantic symphonic orchestra: pairs of flutes, oboes, bassoons, 4 french horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani with the strings occasionally playing divisi. I had a miniature score with some ink-bleeding. I had to use a magnifying glass to enter the entire symphony. There were so many changes in dynamics that that added significantly to the time required to enter the score.

I hope to provide the MP3 for the first two movements in the future as the default MIDI on most computers is nowhere near as good as that which I can record to MP3 format.

I believe the photo above was taken about four years before Sibelius finished this work.

1st movement - (duration: 10:18)

MIDI --- Scorch

2nd movement - (duration: 11:26)

MIDI --- Scorch

3rd & 4th movements - (duration: 20:11)

The 3rd movement goes non-stop into the 4th movement. Since I entered them seperately the only link that has them together like this is this MP3 link. The 4th movement starts at 6:50 right after the grand climax at the very end of the 3rd movement.

Here are the 3rd and 4th movements seperately.

3rd movement - (duration: 6:50)

MIDI --- Scorch

4th movement - (duration: 13:22)

MIDI --- Scorch
